Igor Abramov joined HB Global in 2008, bringing his international trade and investment experience to HB Global and Heenan Blaikie's International Business Law Group.
Mr. Abramov focuses his practice on international trade and investment, corporate governance and governance matters. He has extensive expertise advising individuals, businesses and governments on these issues, and serves as an invaluable asset to clients in a wide range of industries including oil and gas, mining, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, consumer products, and banking and financial services.
Prior to joining HB Global, Mr. Abramov worked for 11 years in the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce as senior advisor for International Trade and as director of the Good Governance Program. In this capacity, Mr. Abramov advised American businesses and the U.S. government on corporate governance, accountability and compliance matters as well as on trade, investment, market access, intellectual property rights and commercial dispute resolution issues in Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Eurasia and Latin America. During his tenure at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. Abramov received numerous awards, including the Bronze Medal Award for superior federal service, 2006; the Gold Medal Award for leadership, 2001; the Silver Medal Award for meritorious service, 2000; and the Bronze Medal for outstanding professional in the International Trade Administration, 1999.
Mr. Abramov is editor, author and co-author of three books including Business Ethics: A Manual for Managing A Responsible Business Enterprise in Emerging Market Economies, which has been published in seven languages and adapted for more than 25 countries as well as for the World Bank Institute. He has also written and edited numerous articles on corporate governance, business ethics, commercial dispute resolution, intellectual property rights as well as international trade and investment. Mr. Abramov is frequently invited to speak on these topics at international conferences and conduct training and workshops for companies to develop and implement corporate governance, business ethics and compliance standards and practices.
When not practising law, Mr. Abramov devotes his time to supporting good governance activities in Russia, Central America, Central Asia and Caucasus. He also serves on the boards of George Washington University's Institute for Corporate Responsibility and the Center for Corporate Governance and Business Ethics in Kazakhstan. Mr. Abramov was a founding member and editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics.
